Idea 3 for an opening title sequence Horror

For this opening sequence i am going to do a horror title sequence consisting with most of the important titles.

This opening sequence is quite simplistic but has a sinister feel to the sequence. It will feature a swing and a little girl or boy, in the woods. Simply just swinging up and down, with the camera cutting after every 2 sounds of the swing squeaking to show a title in the film (the camera will never focus on the child on the swing adding the element of who this child is). The child will then swing past a tree then on the way back the child is gone which will be the only time the camera doesn't cut to black, the title of the film "swing" and whilst the swing is moving frantically by itself and still swinging with the title above the swing, throughout we can hear the child laughing as they swing but as it goes on the laughter gets quieter and quieter.

My narrative for the whole of this film would be surrounding this mysterious swing that children go missing on everyday, The parents of the missing children in this film start to try and uncover what happens to them so that this can stop happening to other kids. But in the film the parents uncover something they shouldn't have and much worse than they thought.

Idea 2 for an opening sequence Horror

The Genre of my first opening sequence would be Horror.

In my opening sequence, it will be set by a lake and a road surrounded by a wood known as Rellik Lake. It opens with a girl swimming in a lake secluded by birds chirping the sunny sky with a gentle breeze. The girl is enjoying a nice morning afternoon swim, she dunks her head under the water once and looks over to the land where her clothes are, she dunks under again and when she comes back up, there is a man standing one the land where her clothes are and she is greeted by him. There is a small amount of dialogue between them that creep the girl out. The girl tries to avoid the man and tries to enjoy her swim.

She dunks her head under the water one final time and the man has disappeared. she gets worried and quickly swims to shore and grabs her clothes and sprints through the forest to her old and rusty looking car. Where as she is about to drive off this secluded road where it cuts to behind her to show a knife in a hand on the backseat then to a blackout with a scream along with it.

The Narrative of this film would be from the perspective of the killer and always be focused on him. This man stays in the woods in what looks to be a run down shed
, where he watches this lake daily waiting for victims that he can take and torture. The lake has been given the name Rellik lake by the teens who have heard stories about this place as backwards you would find out in the film it says Killer lake. this film will focus on the Killers motif and what has lead him down this path and what it does for him seeing multiple victims suffer.

idea 1 for an opening sequence thirller

For this opening sequence i am going to do a thriller

My ideas for this opening sequence is to be set around a table in a dim lit room
with three or people sitting there and whilst the titles are appearing the shots will focus on the main aspects of what is going on showing to the audience but not telling them.

From what you see including, duffle bags, masks, money, blueprints, whisky glasses, lots of phones, wallets, and maybe a gun, cigarettes
it already allows us to imply that this is a crime of somesort. throughout this opening we start to see each character, one at the head of the table in a smart atrie and looking very dominating, showing his authority to the others around another character is wearing a tracksuit implying that maybe he doesn't care as much as the others, and the last character is in black jeans and tee shirt, showing an element of respect.

This film narrative will be about this group of highly smart criminals that have never been caught, But with this heist involves the most focus needed, and throughout we see the group bring in more money to offer upping the antics of what they are trying to pull off, raising a lot of stakes as they start to realise how difficult this heist will be to pull of.

Roles of Production

I am researching the main roles of filmmaking and researching into what they do and explaining their roles inside of the filmmaking industry, along with what their roles consist off.

Director

Directors are the ones with the creative minds for the film in production. They are the ones who give creative ideas for the film throughout, all the way from pre-production through to post-production. The director also will instruct people working in the crew, for example Camera, sound and lighting etc. The director are hired by the producer of the film, who is incharge of the whole of the production.

Christopher Nolan is a famous director who has worked on films such as,  Inception, Tenet, The dark knight. To become a director you need to be able to know the basics to the cinema and the film industry. For example the equipment your going to be using to make the film. To become a director you will need to watch films with deep analysis instead of being able to focus on the most noticeable things, you need to consider for example the Mise-en-scene.

Camera Operator

The camera operator are responsible for being able to capture the scene that is taking place in front of the camera. They are also responsible for operating all the equipment used  including portable cameras, cranes, remote control and electronic cameras, making sure it all works and looks somewhat believable. The skills you should have to become a good Camera operator  are good hand-eye coordination for getting clear footage for the camera, Visual instincts for identifying the best types of angles to use to film.

Emmanuel Lubezki has had an Oscar nomination for the best cinematography eight times, winning three of them for Gravity released in 2013, Birdman released in 2014 and The reverent released in 2015.  Tips to help become a good camera operator is to offer a creative input to the film, giving good suggestions that you think will look better may help the producer and the director.

Editor

The Editor will be incharge of the material such as the camera footage, dialogue, sound, effects,  graphics to produce a final product to the audience. this  is a vital role in the post-production phase of making a film. James Cameron other than being a director has also edited some of his own films in his time like Titanic.

Whilst editing a film you need to have good communication skills with the producer and director so you can understand what they are wanting to capture with their film which the editor is responsible for. Another good tip to becoming a good editor for film is to watch lots of films to see different ways to edit a film.

Art Director/DOP

The DOP of film are the Directors of photography and they are responsible for the photographic soul of the production being made. They read through the screenplay and will work alongside the director to talk about how the film looks and the feel of the film. The art Directors will work with the concept artists to develop sketches and artwork that will communicate to the director and producer on how they want the film to look. A famous DOP who has worked on the films like JAWS, is Steven Spielberg.

To become a good DOP you need to have a good understanding of Cinematography and practice on your own with a camera, watch films to see how other DOP's have done this in the past.

Producer

The producer is the person who is responsible for coming up and starting the production, funding and hiring cast. and crew to help make the film come to life. They will oversee all of the elements of the production from Pre all the way to Post to release day. A well known famous producer is Kevin Feige who is responsible for the whole of the MCU success in Marvel with 27 Films.

To become a producer in film you need to have a good understanding off all the aspects of making a film and have good communication with the whole cast and crew so they can understand what you are trying to get across to the audience.

Comparing title sequences

How is the Genre conveyed?

Grease: With this opening title sequence we are greeted with a song which we can tell is the soundtrack, this is very upbeat and eve
n includes the name of the film of the film in the song.

We can tell from the animated Character dancing along to the music that this film is a musical. By showing the girl dancing around her room, and as these are the two first characters introduced to us 'as Danny and Sandy' we can tell that this genre will have an element of love by using juxtaposition between them.
Another was of showing to us the genre of this film is using the word "as" giving a musical vibe and performance on stage. having a fun and upbeat intro help to convey to the genre of the film. Also by showing the caricatures of the characters also tie into the fact the genre could be a musical as theatre is always over exaggerated.

American Horror Story: The genre is conveyed in this title sequence which is a horror because of the soundtrack that has been used which gives off a very disturbing and unsettling feeling. The soundtrack was all made by sound effects which don't really complement each other. This ties into the tone it is giving off making you feel uncomfortable.

We also know that this show is horror as it physically says "Horror" in the title with a gothic font to support it. There are dark, iconic horror imagery, for example skulls, blood, knifes, and what looks to be like organs in glass jars.

Grease: The key titles that appear through the title sequence would be the company that produced the film which we see at the very start which is 'Paramount Pictures'.

The second title we see which is also key to the film is the title for the film which dominates the entire screen.  The main characters as well dominates the screen showing to us who are the important people in the cast including 'Danny, Sandy, Rizzo and Kenickie'.  Another critical mention in the title sequence id the mention of who the film is produced by which was Robert Stigwood, and Alan Carr, and Directed by Randal Kleiser.

American Horror Story: In this opening sequence we are introduced to a few titles but not the normal 21 which you would normally see in a film or a tv show. we see in this sequence the main title which arrives at the end of the sequence along who are the creators of the show who are Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk

We are also shown a few names the first one who is 'Connie Britton' we can assume that she is the main character in this show followed By Dylan Mcdermott, and Even Peters.

Grease:
The tone of this film is set as an upbeat and happy feel good film. I get a sense of this because of the reference they make towards Disney. With Sandy when she gets out of her bed we get a real Disney princess vibe, with the the little animated animals coming to help her get ready giving off a cinderella or snow white impression.

American Horror story: The title sequence of this creates a very unsettling tone for the audience with all the odd sounds that make up the disturbing intro to the show. The POV flashlight implies that there is someone searching around the house giving off a tone of mystery.

Grease: The font in this sequence look like it has been styled for the time which this is set which seems to be the 1950s, because the title sequence includes Elvis Presley and Madelyn Monroe in it and also has a thunderbirds reference which are all relevant to the time, we can also tell by this that this film is going to be set in the USA, showing a high school. and using Iconic imagery and their costumes and props to give off the time period.

American Horror Story: There is a sense that this shoe is modern and old going back from the past to the present throughout we get this impression from the old pictures we see of babies throughout. Again from the title we know the location of this show is 'America' as it says it inside of the title. and set what looks to be in the basement of a house.

Grease: From the amount of cars they show in the title sequence we can imply that the film is going to have a lot of cars featuring and they will play an adamant role throughout. Sense of rebellious teenagers from the smoking and running away from the police allows us to think that these characters are outlaws. There is a sense of conflict between the two main characters from the rooms that Sandy and Danny wake up in as they are completely opposite to each other.

American Horror Story: There isn't a lot to say about the narrative so but taking a idea from what we are given i think it may be about a killer i get this impression from when we see hands holding onto bars as if they trapped and have been kidnapped. We also see shadows of a figure which we can assume is a bad guy in the show.

Grease: The high school we see at the end of the sequence that has a cross fade into the real world also embeds that this story is going to be about teenagers. 'Danny' who we meet first at the start tells us that he is going to be the main character of the film, who is lazy and we can tell that he is going to be the leader of the gang, he also creates the title of the film.  And secondly we meet Sandy who is going to be the love interest of Danny in the film.

American horror story: There is not a lot to talk about characters, but we can tell that there is a killer because of the blood splattered around the picture of young children and the quick shot of the hands holding onto metal bars without showing her face. The white dress impies the innocence of a character maybe a child in the show we may meet.

Titles

 What are title sequences

The title sequences are the prelude to the start of the film. They are for the audience to engage them and to maybe hint towards the film to come, title sequences they are able to establish what the tone and theme of the film through the font and style in which they present the titles.

Why are they included

The title sequence are able to hint to the audience about what the film may be and about by showing a sense of tone through the colour and theme of the font, with potentially a soundtrack in the background.

These are certain titles you can expect in a title sequence
