Here is my Mood board which i designed to help create an image of what i hope to have my idea look like with these ideas above.
The main photo I chose and what i like the most is this one. It's what i pictured in my head before thinking of the physical image, I think the location is so unique that you don't really see a kidnapping in a shipping container with the victim getting tortured. I also like the idea how we as a group decided to have neon lights like the green ones as that is quite original colours to use, and adds a creepy and unsettling edge onto the scene.
To me the image of the hands tied up behind a chair is another critical image to me for many reasons, firstly having a close up of the hands can establish whether this man is married or not, but it also puts into the audiences head straight away that this person is in a dangerous situation and is trapped wherever he is. The best part about doing this is we can very subtly link to the plot of the film, for example as the villain of the film is the same person as the victim and we find out he is mentally ill we can show a scar on the victims hand, which the audience may notice vaguely and then we will see the same scar on the villians hand establishing that they may be the same person.
Using a mask like they use in the purge always manages to create a huge foreboding tone in the films even with a little head tilt like the one in the picture, i think using one, will do multiple things for our opening sequence, firstly without any dialogue we can use the actors head movements to creep the audience out also without showing the villains face it already creates that unsettling sense as you don't know who this person is. it also allows to play into the colours of the scene which play a big role throughout.
The bloody knuckle i thought would be a good part to show, even though the villain will be wearing a pair of knuckle dusters this allows us again to have a few close ups of the hands while he is cleaning up the blood we can focus on the hands which will help us learn alot about this character, for example he also isn't married, and has the same scar as the victim already connecting them together.
The security cameras are a small part to add to the sequence but creates a lot of tension within to convey to the audience, for example having it stare at the victim in silence with a little blinking light gives off a unsettling sense that he is constantly being watched and can't stop it.
The locket that we will have on the costume of both men in the scene will have the same picture within it, which shows to the audience again that something is not right here and they might again be the same person as they are going to be wearing the same suit and have the same scar on the hand. The only thing that is different about them is one is more in power.
I thought this image from the film "Us" is a great picture to show the mental image of what we are going for, for example the alter ego of our character is trying to kill himself in a way which is not pleasant to see and you can clearly see one is more psycho just like in this film.
